Generator Diesel Calculator

Fuel use is derived from official manufacturer performance curves (Cummins, Perkins, CAT, FG Wilson, Volvo, Baudouin) with linear interpolation between load points.

Fuel consumption vs load

Compare two generators

Fuel consumption values are based on published manufacturer performance data and industry-average estimates. Actual consumption may vary depending on generator brand, engine condition, maintenance, ambient temperature, fuel quality, altitude and operating conditions.

How to use

  1. Choose a country (to auto-fill the diesel price) or select "Custom" to enter your own price.
  2. Choose the manufacturer and enter the generator size (kVA) and expected load percentage.
  3. Enter the daily run hours and number of days to calculate consumption and cost for your chosen period.

Formula used

L/h = f(manufacturer, kVA, load%) — from performance curve daily_liters = L/h × hours_per_day total_liters = daily_liters × days total_cost = total_liters × price_per_liter

Worked example

For a 100 kVA Cummins generator running at 75% load for 8 hours/day over 30 days, at a diesel price of 2.95 AED/L: hourly consumption is about 22 L, so daily use = 22 × 8 = 176 L, monthly total = 176 × 30 = 5,280 L, and the cost = 5,280 × 2.95 ≈ 15,576 AED.

Reading the results

"L/h" is the instantaneous consumption rate at the chosen load. Daily, monthly and annual figures project that rate over different periods for budgeting, while "Cost per kWh" helps compare the generator's efficiency to other power sources, and "Refuel time" estimates how many hours until the tank runs dry.

Accuracy disclaimer: this tool provides estimates only, based on published performance curves and industry averages; your generator's actual consumption may differ depending on its condition, maintenance and operating environment.

Note: the default diesel price (2.95 AED/L) reflects the typical announced UAE price; please always cross-check it against the current official price and effective month shown on our UAE fuel prices page before relying on it.

FAQ

How is hourly generator consumption calculated?

We use manufacturer performance curves (or industry averages) to estimate litres/hour at a given size and load, then multiply by the entered run hours and days.

Where does the diesel price come from?

You can auto-select a price by country or enter it manually; using the current official price from our UAE fuel prices page gives the most accurate result.

What is the optimal generator load range?

Diesel generators are typically most fuel-efficient between 70% and 85% of rated load.

Can I compare two different generators?

Yes, enable the comparison option to see consumption and cost differences between two generators of the same or different manufacturers.

Are the results 100% accurate?

No — they are estimates based on published performance curves and industry averages; actual consumption is affected by engine condition, maintenance, climate and fuel quality.
